Biography of Zhou Guanyu

Guanyu Zhou is the first Chinese driver ever to compete in F1 - racing for the Alfa Romeo team in 2022.

Born in Shanghai on May 23, 1999, Zhou is now 23 years of old as he plots his way through his debut season in F1.

He stands at a height of 5ft 9ins tall (1.75m).

Guanyu Zhou is the first full-time F1 driver from China having joined Alfa Romeo for the 2022 season.

Zhou's journey to F1 started by joining the Ferrari Driver Academy when karting in 2014 and remained part of the Scuderia's junior programme until the end of 2018.

In 2019, Zhou joined the Renault Sport Academy and was made development driver for Renault's F1 team.

A year later, the Chinese driver was promoted to test driver and took part in the post-season test with the team in Abu Dhabi alongside Fernando Alonso.

Zhou was given his first taste of a grand prix weekend in 2021 when participating in FP1 for the Austrian Grand Prix. He was the second Chinese driver to take part in an official grand prix weekend after Ma Qinghua.

Zhou's promotion to F1 comes after an impressive third year in F2.

In 2019, Zhou made his debut for UNI Virtuosi and became the first Chinese driver to take a pole position in F1's feeder series.

Zhou finished the year as the highest placed rookie with five podiums helping him finish seventh in the standings.

The following season saw Zhou take his first F2 win in Russia's sprint race, with a further five podiums seeing him finish sixth.

But in 2021, Zhou mounted a title challenge and was able to take four victories and another five podiums on the way to third in the standings.
